Large designer brass, chrome and smoked glass shelving unit, 1970s

This monumental shelving unit fully embodies the Italian designer furniture trend of the 1970s: it combines a brass-finish gilded metal structure, vertical chrome uprights, and a succession of smoked glass shelves, in a perfectly balanced and modern graphic composition.
During this period, furniture adopted clear geometric lines, often based on interlocking rectangular frames, and favored noble materials such as chrome, smoked glass, and brass.
This aesthetic directly echoes the Italian creations of Romeo Rega, an emblematic figure of this movement, known for his gilded or chrome-plated metal furniture combined with glass, which was both luxurious and modern. There is also a kinship with certain Northern European, particularly Dutch, productions, in the spirit of Kim Moltzer.
Composed of 19 smoked glass shelves, this unit offers a play of transparency and depth that visually lightens its spectacular dimensions. It evokes gallery display stands, ideal for showcasing ceramics, sculptures, glassware, books, or lighting, and can also serve as a room divider.
Through its structured design, materials, and scale, this piece perfectly embodies the modernist glamour of the 70s and the Hollywood Regency style, very fashionable at the time.
