Magnificent 1970s Italian floor lamp, featuring a solid brass base topped with a large Murano glass globe, an emblematic piece of the period's major lighting productions.
From the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, Italy developed a specific approach to decorative pieces, based on the valorization of glass, at the heart of creations intended for decoration. In Murano, numerous specialized workshops then produced large-diameter opaline globes, crafted with great finesse, intended for both domestic lighting and large-scale decorative projects.
The globe of this floor lamp, approximately 40 cm in diameter, features a decoration of amber nuances integrated into the glass during shaping. This type of treatment, obtained by adding molten colored glass, is characteristic of Muranese decorative productions of the 1970s.
The cylindrical solid brass base reflects a typology widely used in Italian lighting of this decade: sober and deliberately unadorned, these bases served to visually support the volume of the glass while allowing it to take its full place. This combination of Murano glass and brass can be found in the catalogs of emblematic houses such as Venini, but also among many publishers and workshops that are now unattributed, whose execution quality nevertheless remains exceptional.
Through its dimensions and its glass treatment, this floor lamp is part of a demanding Italian production of the 1970s, highly sought after today by collectors.
