Pair of pastel candle holders, Macao Porcelain, 1980s
Free shipping on orders over €200.00
A pair of hand-painted porcelain candlesticks, enchanting with their refined decor in shades of pink, lavender, seafoam green, and pale yellow. Their graphic, almost abstract, appearance resonates as a variation between artisanal tradition and colorful modernism.
Made in Macau in the 1980s, they carry the legacy of a singular craftsmanship. At the time, Macau, then a Portuguese colony near Hong Kong, became a major center for the production of decorative porcelains for export. Vases, plates, tea sets, and candlesticks were produced there in small local factories.
The style of these pieces blends Art Deco and stylized Art Nouveau influences: volutes, graphic foliage, and hearts intertwine in a play of finely drawn black lines, typical of these porcelains. Their delicately nuanced pastel palette, enhanced by the luster of the enamel, lends these candlesticks a rare elegance.
These pieces integrate perfectly into a contemporary interior today, bringing a poetic touch, between a memory of decorative arts and a hint of Memphis Design style.
