Splendid giant shell-shaped table lamp, handcrafted in iridescent ceramic with a gold trim, signed Bondia, Spain, 1970s.
The Bondia house, a Spanish ceramic artisan active in the 60s to 80s, produced a series of luminaires inspired by organic marine forms, which are now sought after by collectors. This shell lamp is one of the most beautiful achievements of this spirit: the iridescent ceramic, whose surface work reveals changing pearlescent reflections depending on the angle of light, is highlighted by a gold trim that traces the undulating contours of the shell. When lit, the piece diffuses a warm and subdued light from within, accentuating the depth of the glaze and creating a very soft halo. A piece that combines two great passions of 70s Palm Springs decor: marine creatures elevated to decorative pieces, and the nobility of handcrafted materials.
